B-Line Eaton series imperial cable tray and ladder, 4" Height, 27" Length, 9" Width, Series 2-5 vertical tee down, Aluminum, 24" Radius

It is a three-way cable tray fitting that lets a run branch downward. The main tray continues straight through while the branch drops vertically on a 24 inch radius, so cable bend radius is maintained where it turns down toward a panel, drop or lower tier. It is built in aluminum for the Series 2-5 tray line at 4 inch rail height and 9 inch tray width.

It is a tee down, meaning the branch turns below the plane of the main run. A tee up turns above it. They are not interchangeable and you cannot flip one to make the other, because the radius is formed on one side of the tray only. Confirm from your riser diagram which way the branch leaves before you order.

The radius sets the minimum bend the conductors see as they turn down. A 24 inch radius is the larger of the common tray radii and is what large power cable and fiber typically call for, since cable manufacturers specify a minimum bending radius as a multiple of cable diameter. If your run carries small control or instrument cable, a shorter radius fitting will take less space; if it carries heavy MV or fiber, the 24 inch keeps you inside the cable's bend spec.

Allow 27 inches of length for the 4A-09-VT24 vertical tee down, with a 9 inch tray width and 4 inch rails. The 24 inch radius is what drives that length, so on a tight ceiling or close to a wall penetration you need to confirm the vertical drop has 27 inches of clearance before the branch straightens out.

Aluminum. At 16.7 lb for the fitting, it is light enough for one electrician to set on hangers without a lift, and aluminum is the usual pick for corrosion-prone areas like wash-down spaces, coastal sites and chemical plants. Where you need it, use the same material through the run: mixing aluminum tray with plain steel hardware invites galvanic issues at the joints.

It carries CSA certification, which is what an inspector on a Canadian jobsite looks for on cable tray components.

Order Eaton B-Line part 4A-09-VT24. Reading the number: 4A is the 4 inch aluminum rail, 09 is the 9 inch tray width, VT is vertical tee and 24 is the 24 inch radius. If you need a different width or radius in the same series, only those segments change.

The 4A-09-VT24 is supplied as the fitting itself. Splice plates, bolts and the hangers or trapeze supports for the drop are separate line items, so plan on ordering a splice connection for each of the three openings on the tee plus support at the turn.
