It is built for 24 inch wide tray, with a 4 inch side rail height. Run widths on all four legs are 24 inches, so every tray section meeting at the intersection has to be a 24 inch wide, 4 inch deep Series 2-5 aluminum tray. If your runs are a different width, this cross will not mate up.

Plan for a 39 inch overall dimension on the fitting, driven by the 24 inch bend radius on each leg. Center of the intersection to the end of any leg is roughly half that, so you need the four-way junction clear of columns, ductwork, and hangers well beyond the tray width itself. Large radius fittings like this one are used where the cable bend radius rules require it.

Aluminum. That gives you a lighter fitting to hoist into place and inherent corrosion resistance, which is why aluminum tray gets specified for exterior runs, wash-down areas, and coastal or chemical plants where galvanized steel would need coating. It also means you should keep your hardware and grounding compatible with aluminum rather than mixing dissimilar metals at the joints.

The fitting weighs 32.38 lb bare, before any cable fill. At a four-way intersection you are carrying the fitting plus the cable from four directions, so most installers hang support on each leg near the splice plates rather than trying to cantilever the cross off the adjoining runs.

It is CSA certified, which is what an electrical inspector on a Canadian project will look for on cable tray and fittings. That certification applies to the 4A-24-HX24 aluminum horizontal cross as supplied.

Order it as Eaton B-Line 4A-24-HX24. Read the code this way: 4 inch rail, aluminum, 24 inch width, horizontal cross with a 24 inch radius. If a drawing calls for a different radius or width, the suffix changes and it is a different part.
