A vertical outside bend carries the tray run over a change in elevation where the tray turns away from the cable, such as cresting a beam or stepping up over an obstruction. The B-Line 4A-24-45VO48 turns 45 degrees on a 48 inch radius, so cables keep a generous bend and are not kinked at the transition. It is a ladder tray fitting, not a straight section, so you splice it between two straight lengths.

It is built as a Series 2-5 fitting at 24 inch width and 4 inch loading depth in aluminum, so it splices into a matching 24 inch wide, 4 inch deep aluminum ladder run. If your straight sections are a different width, a different depth rail, or steel rather than aluminum, this is the wrong fitting for that run.

Allow about 39.062 inches of run length for the fitting itself, measured along its length dimension, plus clearance for the 45 degree rise on a 48 inch radius. On tight ceiling plenums that radius is the number that catches people out, so lay it out before you cut your straight sections to length.

The 4A-24-45VO48 bend is UL Classified. That is the rating carried on the fitting, and it is what an inspector on a commercial or institutional job will be looking for on the tray system.

Aluminum construction keeps the weight down for overhead work, this 24 inch bend runs 12.002 lb, which one person can set on the trapeze while a second splices it. Aluminum is also the usual choice in damp, coastal or corrosive environments. Where you need maximum load capacity over long support spans or the spec calls for a steel system, match the material of your straight sections instead of mixing.

Order the splice plates and bolt hardware separately. The 4A-24-45VO48 is supplied as the fitting alone, so plan on connection hardware at each end plus whatever hangers or trapeze supports the elevation change requires.

Direction of the turn relative to the cables. An outside bend, like this 45 degree unit, curves so the tray bottom is on the outside of the arc, used where the run climbs over an obstruction and then levels off at the top. An inside bend curves the other way, used at the base of that climb. A full elevation change usually needs one of each.
