A vertical outside bend carries the tray run up and over an obstruction or a change in elevation, bending away from the cable side so the cables ride on the outside of the curve. This B-Line Eaton fitting turns a full 90 degrees on a 48 inch radius, which is the generous radius used where large-diameter or fiber cable needs a wide bend to stay within its minimum bend radius. If your elevation change bends toward the cable side instead, you need a vertical inside bend, not this part.

Plan the layout around 51 inches of overall length for the fitting, on a 48 inch radius. That means roughly four feet of vertical rise consumed by the bend itself before the straight section resumes, so check overhead clearance and any structure or duct you are climbing over before you commit the elevation. If you are tight on room, a shorter radius bend in the same width is the way to go.

It carries a UL Classified rating. For an electrical inspector on a commercial or institutional job, that is the mark to point at when the tray run is being used as an equipment grounding conductor or where classified tray is called out on the drawings.

Aluminum tray weighs far less per foot than steel, which cuts the hanger loading and makes overhead installation quicker, and it holds up in damp or corrosive areas without galvanizing. This bend is aluminum throughout, so pair it with aluminum straight sections and aluminum splice hardware. Mixing aluminum fittings into a steel run creates a dissimilar metal joint and a fastener mismatch at the splice plates.

The 4A-24-90VO48 is the bend section itself. Splice plates and their hardware are ordered separately in B-Line's aluminum splice hardware, matched to the Series 2 through 5 rail, so add a pair for each end of the fitting when you build the material list.

The fitting weighs 19.6 lb bare, before any cable fill. That is light enough for a two-man lift into hangers, but the load calculation that matters is the cable weight in a 24 inch wide tray, so size the trapeze supports at each end of the bend to the filled run, not to the fitting.
