The finish is hot-dipped galvanized, which is the coating you want for exterior runs, rooftops, parking structures, wash-down areas, and unconditioned spaces. Hot dip coats the steel after fabrication, including cut edges and the inside of the channel, so it holds up better outdoors than a pre-galvanized or painted channel. For dry indoor mechanical rooms a plain or pre-galvanized channel is usually enough.

B22 measures 1.62 inches in both height and width, which is the 1-5/8 inch square profile the trade calls standard strut. That means standard 1-5/8 inch strut nuts, clamps, fittings, and pipe straps drop into it.

SH is the slotted hole pattern punched through the back of the channel, as opposed to a solid back with no holes. The slots let you through-bolt the channel to structure, beams, or wall anchors anywhere along the run without drilling on site, and give you some adjustment to line up with existing anchor spacing. If you want an unpunched back for maximum section strength, you would order the solid-back version of B22 instead.
