12 Gauge steel is the heavy-duty end of the strut range, thicker than the 14 and 16 gauge channel typically used for light conduit and equipment mounting. Combined with the 2.43 in section height, that makes B12 the choice for trapeze hangers carrying multiple pipe runs, longer unsupported spans, and pipe-rack and equipment-support framing rather than single-conduit clips.

DURA GREEN is Eaton B-Line's green painted coating over the steel channel. It's a paint finish, not zinc, so treat it as suited to dry indoor and protected interior work such as mechanical rooms, plant interiors, and ceiling trapeze runs. For exposed exterior, coastal, wash-down, or corrosive process areas, specify a hot-dip galvanized or stainless channel instead. Field cuts should be touched up, since any cut end exposes bare steel.

The B12 channel takes its connections through the 1.62 in open face using channel nuts and bolts, which is how strut framing is assembled regardless of whether the back and sides are punched. That means no drilling and no welding to add a hanger or bracket, and connections can be loosened and slid along the run later when a pipe or conduit route changes.
