B-LINE B280YZN – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What strut channel does the B-Line B280YZN post base fit?
The B280YZN square post base is made for Eaton B-Line B22 channel. B22 is the 1-5/8 inch wide, deep (3-1/4 inch) back-to-back strut profile, so the base accepts the end of a B22 post rather than the shallower single-depth channel. If your upright is single-depth strut, this is not the base for it.
2) What does centered offset mean on this B-Line square post base?
On the B280YZN, the post socket sits centered on the 6 by 6 inch square plate but the mounting geometry is offset, so the channel is held in line with the middle of the base instead of flush to one edge. Practical effect: anchor bolts land clear of the post footprint, and you can run a wrench on them after the strut is set.
3) How much slab or pad area do I need for a B280YZN strut post base?
Plan for a 6 by 6 inch footprint. The base plate measures 6 inches by 6 inches and stands 3.5 inches tall, and it weighs 3.92 pounds, so it is a substantial hot-rolled style fitting, not a light stamped plate. Lay out your anchors to that 6 inch square and leave room around it for a socket.
4) Is the yellow zinc chromate finish on the B280YZN alright for outdoor or damp locations?
Yellow zinc chromate is a plated coating over steel, aimed at indoor and protected service. It holds up in a mechanical room, warehouse, or covered exterior area, but for open weather, rooftop, or wash-down duty you want a hot-dip galvanized or stainless post base instead. The B280YZN body is steel with the yellow zinc chromate plating.
5) Do anchor bolts come with the B-Line B280YZN post base?
No. The B280YZN ships as the steel post base only. You supply the concrete anchors or floor fasteners to suit your slab, plus the bolts and channel nuts that tie the B22 strut into the base. Size the anchors to the loads on the post, not to the base weight.
6) Can I use a B280YZN base for a freestanding rooftop or floor-mounted equipment support?
It works as the floor connection for a B22 strut upright, which is the usual way to stand up freestanding racks, equipment frames, and cable tray or conduit supports. Because it is a single square base under one post, lateral stability comes from your frame: brace the uprights together or run cross members. A single anchored base alone will not resist much side load.
7) What is the exact part number to order this Eaton B-Line square post base?
Order it as B280YZN, Eaton B-Line series. The YZN suffix is the yellow zinc chromate finish; the base itself is steel and fits B22 channel.
