B-LINE B409-12SS4 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How much weight will the B-Line B409-12SS4 bracket hold?
The B409-12SS4 carries a uniform load capacity of 960 lbs. That is a uniformly distributed rating, not a point load at the end of the 12 inch arm, so a concentrated load hung at the tip should be derated accordingly by your engineer.
2) Is the B409-12SS4 strut bracket stainless steel or plain steel?
Material is steel with a Type 304 stainless steel designation. Type 304 is the common austenitic stainless used for outdoor, damp and wash-down electrical supports, so it suits exterior conduit racks, rooftops and mechanical rooms where a plain or electro-galvanized bracket would rust.
3) Will the B-Line B409-12SS4 bracket work outdoors or in a corrosive area?
Yes. Being Type 304 stainless rather than a plated finish, the B409-12SS4 is intended for wet, exterior and corrosive service. Match it with 304 stainless strut, channel nuts and bolts; mixing stainless brackets with zinc-plated hardware puts the fasteners at risk first and defeats the point of the upgrade.
4) What size strut does the B409-12SS4 single channel bracket fit?
The bracket is 1.62 inches wide, which matches the standard 1-5/8 inch face of B-Line and other 1-5/8 inch strut channel. Single channel means it is sized for one channel width, not a back-to-back double channel run.
5) What is the B-Line B409-12SS4 strut bracket and what is it used for?
The B409-12SS4 is a single channel bracket from the Eaton B-Line strut fittings and accessories line. It bolts to strut channel to carry a run of channel, conduit, cable tray supports or equipment off a wall or structure. It measures 12 inches long, 4.62 inches high and 1.62 inches wide, and weighs 2.32 lb.
6) Do I get bolts and channel nuts with the B409-12SS4 bracket?
You are buying the bracket alone, MPN B409-12SS4, at 2.32 lb. Channel nuts, bolts and washers are ordered separately, and on a 304 stainless bracket they should be stainless as well.
7) How far off the wall will the B409-12SS4 bracket hold a conduit run?
It gives a 12 inch projection, with a 4.62 inch profile height at the mounting end. Check that 12 inches clears the pipe, insulation or tray you are supporting plus wrench room; if you need less standoff, a shorter length in the same B409 single channel bracket family is the way to go.
8) Does the B-Line B409-12SS4 bracket carry a UL listing or other certification?
Certifications are marked Not Applicable for the B409-12SS4. It is a structural strut fitting rather than an electrical device, so specifying it is a matter of the 960 lb uniform load rating and the 304 stainless material rather than a listing mark.
