1) Can I use a B-Line 1284 HC junction box outdoors or in a wash-down area?
No. The 1284 HC is a NEMA Type 1 enclosure, which is indoor-only protection against incidental dust and contact with the enclosed equipment. It offers no rating against rain, hose-down, or corrosive atmospheres. For a wet exterior wall or a wash-down kitchen, you need a Type 3R, 4, or 4X box instead.
2) Is the cover on the 1284 HC hinged or fully removable?
Both. The HC cover is hinged so it swings open and stays with the box during wiring, and it is also removable if you need it off entirely to pull conductors or drop the box into a tight space. It has a recessed pull ring and a friction dimple to hold it closed.
3) Does this B-Line box come with knockouts, or do I have to punch my own conduit holes?
Knockouts are already provided: 4 on the top, 4 on the bottom, and 5 on the sides. That covers straight-through conduit runs and side entries without a hole saw or punch on site. Plug any knockout you do not use to keep the Type 1 enclosure closed.
