It gives no protection against rain, washdown, dust or oil, so keep it inside dry mechanical rooms, electrical closets and above-ceiling runs. For outdoor, wet or washdown locations you need a NEMA 3R, 4 or 4X enclosure instead.

It measures 12 inches high, 10 inches wide, and 6 inches deep. That 6 inch depth is what matters most for conductor bending space and for stacking terminal blocks or a small relay behind the door, and the 12 x 10 face is what has to clear studs or strut on the wall.
