The 1086 HC NK measures 10 inches high, 8 inches wide, and 6 inches deep. That 6 inch depth is what gives you room to land conduit and make up splices behind a device or terminal strip, and it is the number to check against your wall cavity or equipment clearance before you mount it.

No. A NEMA 1 enclosure is indoor only, rated to keep personnel away from live parts and to shed falling dirt. It offers no protection against rain, hose-down, or wind-blown dust. For an exterior wall, a loading dock, or a wet mechanical room you need a NEMA 3R or 4/4X enclosure instead. The 1086 HC NK is a dry indoor box.

No knockouts. The 1086 HC NK ships blank, so you drill or punch your own conduit openings wherever the run comes in. That is usually what an electrician wants on a make-up box, but plan on a hole punch or step bit on site since the body is 16 gauge carbon steel.

The 1086 HC NK carries UL 50, the standard for enclosures for electrical equipment covering the enclosure construction and its environmental type. It is built in the US. If your spec calls out a UL 50 Type 1 enclosure, this meets that call-out.

The cover is hinged, so it swings open and stays with the box when you are working inside, and it is also removable if you need the box fully open for wire pulling or to paint around it. A recessed pull ring and a friction dimple hold it shut without a latch or tool.

It is a surface mount box with thru holes in the back pan, so you fasten it straight to a wall, a panel, or Unistrut with your own screws or bolts. Mounting fasteners and anchors are not part of the box, so pick them for the substrate. At 6.8 pounds empty, ordinary wall anchors handle it, but back it into blocking or studs if you are filling it with conduit and wire.

Painted ANSI 61 grey, which is the standard grey used on most industrial control panels and switchgear, so it lines up visually with the rest of a typical equipment wall. The paint is over carbon steel, so touch up any field-drilled conduit holes to keep them from rusting.

16 gauge carbon steel is the usual commercial and light industrial body thickness for a box this size, stiff enough to resist denting from incidental contact and to hold a field-punched conduit hub without flexing. In a spot exposed to vehicle or cart traffic, mount it high or add a guard, since the NEMA 1 rating says nothing about impact.
