B-LINE 12126 HC – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can a NEMA Type 1 junction box like the B-Line 12126 HC be used outdoors or in a washdown area?
No. The 12126 HC carries a NEMA Type 1 rating, which is indoor use only, for protection against incidental contact and falling dirt. It gives no protection against rain, hose-down, dust, oil or corrosive conditions. For an exterior wall, a loading dock, or a wet mechanical room you need a Type 3R, 4 or 4X enclosure instead. Indoor electrical rooms, corridors above ceilings, and back-of-house wiring pulls are where a Type 1 box belongs.
2) What are the actual box dimensions of the B-Line 12126 HC junction box?
It is a 12 x 12 x 6 inch box: 12 inch height, 12 inch width, and 6 inch length/depth. The 6 inch depth is what matters most on a wiring pull, since it sets your bending room for large conductors and how far the box stands off the wall once surface mounted. Built from 16 gauge carbon steel, it weighs 10.1 lb, so one person can hang it.
3) Does the 12126 HC junction box come with conduit knockouts already punched, or do I have to drill it?
Knockouts are already provided: 5 on the top, 5 on the bottom, and 5 on the sides. So you can land conduit from above, below, or in from the side without putting a hole saw to the box. If your run needs an entry where there is no knockout, you would be drilling or punching that yourself.
4) How does the B-Line HC enclosure mount to a wall, and is mounting hardware included?
The HC enclosure is a surface mount box with thru holes in the back pan, so you fasten it straight to the wall or to Unistrut through those holes. The fasteners themselves are not part of the box, so pick anchors to suit your substrate, concrete, block, or metal stud, and size them for the 10.1 lb empty weight plus whatever wiring and devices go inside.
5) Is the cover on this B-Line junction box hinged or a screw-on lift-off plate?
Hinged, and also removable. It uses a recessed pull ring with a friction dimple to hold it closed, so a tech can swing it open one-handed for troubleshooting and still lift the door off completely when they need clear access to terminate inside. That is the practical difference from a plain screw cover box, which has to come off entirely every time.
6) What color and finish is the B-Line 12126 HC, and will it match the other enclosures in my electrical room?
It ships painted in ANSI 61 grey, the standard gray used across most industrial enclosures and panelboards, so it will read the same as the rest of a typical electrical room lineup. The paint is over carbon steel, which is fine indoors but will rust if it takes moisture, another reason to keep a Type 1 box in dry space.
7) What is the part number to order this 12 x 12 x 6 hinged cover B-Line box, and where is it made?
Order it as B-Line (Eaton) part 12126 HC, a small single door hinged enclosure. It is made in the US. The number reads directly off the dimensions: 12 high, 12 wide, 6 deep, HC for hinged cover.
