1) Can a NEMA 1 screw cover junction box like the B-Line 302412 SC be used outdoors or in a washdown area?
No. The 302412 SC carries a NEMA Type 1 rating, which is indoor use only, for protection against incidental contact and falling dirt. It offers no protection against rain, hose-down, dust, or corrosive environments. For a wet or outdoor location you need a Type 3R, 4, or 4X enclosure instead. Indoors on a dry mechanical room or electrical room wall is where this box belongs.
2) Does this B-Line enclosure come with knockouts already, or do I have to punch my own conduit holes?
Knockouts are factory provided: 9 on the sides, 9 on the top, and 9 on the bottom of the 302412 SC. So you can bring conduit in from either side or from above and below without a hole saw or punch. If your run needs an entry where there is no knockout, the 14 gauge carbon steel body can be punched, but plan your conduit routing around the existing pattern first.
3) How does the B-Line 302412 SC mount to the wall, and what does the cover mounting look like?
It is a surface mounted enclosure with thru holes in the back pan, so you fasten it directly to the wall or to unistrut with your own bolts or lags (fasteners are not supplied). The screw cover uses keyhole slots, which means you can back the screws out part way and lift the cover off without chasing loose hardware, then drop it back on. Screws are plated. At 54.4 pounds empty, get two people on it or hang it off strut.
4) Is 14 gauge steel heavy enough to mount a terminal strip or small components inside this box?
The 302412 SC body is 14 gauge carbon steel, which is the standard commercial wall thickness for enclosures of this size and takes self tapping screws or a bolted sub panel without deflecting. The 12 inch depth leaves room behind a mounted panel for conductor bending space. A sub panel is not included with the box, so order the mounting panel separately if you intend to mount gear inside rather than just splice.
5) What finish does this B-Line junction box come in, and will it match the other enclosures in my electrical room?
Painted carbon steel in ANSI 61 grey, which is the standard grey used across most industrial panelboards, control cabinets, and enclosures, so it lines up visually with existing gear in a typical electrical or mechanical room. It is a painted indoor finish, not a galvanized or stainless one, so keep it out of damp or corrosive spaces where the paint will fail.
