B-LINE 362412 SC – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the B-Line 362412 SC junction box be used outdoors or in a washdown area?
No. The 362412 SC is a NEMA Type 1 enclosure, which is for indoor use only and gives protection against incidental contact with the enclosed equipment and falling dirt. It offers no rated protection against rain, hose-down, dust or oil. For an exterior wall, a loading dock, or a wet mechanical room you need a NEMA 3R, 4 or 12 enclosure instead. The carbon steel body is painted ANSI 61 grey, not stainless.
2) What are the actual box dimensions on the B-Line 362412 SC screw cover enclosure?
36 inches high, 24 inches long/deep and 12 inches wide. The model designation follows those numbers in order: 36-24-12. Plan wall space for the full 36 by 24 face plus clearance to pull the screw cover straight off, since the cover lifts away rather than swinging on a hinge.
3) How many conduit knockouts does the B-Line 362412 SC junction box have and where are they?
Nine knockouts on the sides, nine on the top, and nine on the bottom. That lets you bring conduit in from the top and bottom runs and branch out either side without drilling the enclosure. If your run needs an entry on the back or in a spot the knockouts do not cover, you will be punching the 14 gauge carbon steel yourself.
4) How does this B-Line screw cover enclosure mount to the wall, and does it need a backboard?
It is a surface mount enclosure with thru holes in the back for lag or through bolts. At 68.6 pounds empty, before conduit and conductors, fasten it into studs, unistrut, or a properly anchored plywood backboard. Anchoring into drywall alone will not hold it.
5) Is the B-Line 362412 SC a UL listed enclosure for an inspected commercial job?
Yes. The enclosure is built to UL 50, the standard covering enclosures for electrical equipment, and carries the NEMA Type 1 rating for indoor use. It is made in the US.
6) Do I have to hold the cover while I start the screws on this B-Line enclosure?
No. The cover has keyhole slots, so you can back the plated screws out part way, hang the cover on them, and then snug everything down single-handed. That matters on a 36 by 24 inch cover you are working overhead or at height. The screws are plated to resist corrosion in normal indoor service.
7) Should I use a screw cover junction box or a hinged door enclosure?
A screw cover box like the 362412 SC is for pull points, splices and terminations you rarely open: the cover comes fully off, which gives unobstructed access to the whole 36 by 24 inch opening for pulling wire, but it is a two-hand job and there is a loose cover to set down. If the box houses controls, relays or terminal strips a tech needs to open regularly, choose a hinged cover enclosure instead. Both are Type 1 for indoor use.
8) Will the 14 gauge steel body hold conduit hubs and heavy raceway without flexing?
The body is 14 gauge carbon steel, which is the usual commercial weight for enclosures this size and stiff enough to support rigid conduit entering the knockouts when the box itself is properly anchored through the back thru holes. Support heavy conduit runs independently near the box rather than letting the enclosure carry the load.
9) Will the grey finish on this B-Line box match the other enclosures and panelboards in my plant?
It ships painted in ANSI 61 grey, the standard light grey used across most industrial electrical gear, so it will read as a match beside typical panelboards, disconnects and control enclosures. If your facility standardized on a custom color you would be repainting it.
