B-LINE 36366 SC NK – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Eaton B-Line 36366 SC NK junction box be used outdoors or in a washdown area?
No. The 36366 SC NK is a NEMA Type 1 enclosure, which is indoor use only and protects against incidental contact and falling dirt. It offers no protection against rain, hose-down, dust or oil. For a wet or outdoor location you need a Type 3R or Type 4 enclosure instead.
2) What are the actual box dimensions on the B-Line 36366 SC NK enclosure?
36 inches high by 36 inches wide with a 6 inch depth, so it gives a full 36 x 36 back panel area for wire pulling or terminal blocks while only projecting 6 inches off the wall. The model designation 36366 reads out of those numbers.
3) Does this B-Line junction box come with knockouts, or do I have to punch my own conduit holes?
It ships with no knockouts. The NK in 36366 SC NK means the walls are blank, so you locate and punch your own conduit entries wherever your raceway lands. Plan on a knockout punch set for 12 gauge carbon steel.
4) How is this 36 x 36 enclosure mounted to the wall?
Surface mount, using thru holes in the back of the box, so it bolts directly to the wall or to unistrut. Note the enclosure weighs 98.6 lb empty, so anchor into structure or strut rather than drywall, and get a second set of hands on it.
5) How does the cover come off on a screw cover junction box, and is that a problem for frequent access?
The cover is a screw cover, fastened with plated screws all the way around, and it has keyhole slots so you can loosen the screws and lift the cover off without fully removing every one. That is fine for pull boxes and terminations you open occasionally. If your electricians need to get in daily, a hinged-door enclosure is the better choice, since a 36 x 36 screw cover is awkward to handle solo.
6) Is this B-Line junction box UL listed?
Yes, it carries UL 50 certification, the standard covering enclosures for electrical equipment. That is what an inspector or a spec on the drawing will be looking for on a Type 1 indoor box.
7) Is a back panel included with this junction box?
The 36366 SC NK is supplied as the box and screw cover. Mounting panels for B-Line screw cover enclosures are ordered separately, sized to the box, so add one if you are landing terminal blocks or devices rather than just pulling and splicing conductors.
8) What finish and color does the Eaton B-Line 36366 SC NK come in, and will it match our other panels?
Painted carbon steel in ANSI 61 grey, the standard grey used across most industrial enclosures and switchgear, so it will sit alongside existing B-Line and other ANSI 61 gear without looking off. Screws are plated.
9) Is 12 gauge steel heavy enough for a 36 inch enclosure in a plant?
12 gauge is the heavier end for junction boxes and is what you want on a 36 x 36 opening, since a thinner wall that size will oil-can and the cover will not seat flat. Carbon steel at 12 gauge takes conduit hubs and heavy raceway loads without distorting around the punched entries.
10) Is the Eaton B-Line 36366 SC NK made in the USA?
Yes, country of origin is the United States, which matters if your job carries a domestic sourcing requirement on federal or institutional work.
