B-LINE 10104 WPSC – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Eaton B-Line 10104 WPSC junction box be mounted outdoors?
Yes. The 10104 WPSC is a Type 3/3R screw-cover enclosure, so it handles outdoor rain, sleet and windblown dust. The cover is gasketed with an oil-resistant gasket and gasketed screws, and the carbon steel body is painted ANSI 61 grey. Keep it surface mounted on a vertical wall so water runs off the flanged cover rather than pooling on it.
2) What are the box dimensions on the B-Line 10104 WPSC, and how much wiring room does it give me?
It measures 10 inches high, 10 inches wide and 4 inches deep. That 4 inch depth is the usable wiring space behind the screw cover, which is enough for pull and splice work or a small terminal strip, but tight if you are planning to land a device or a DIN rail with components stacked off the backpan. Shipping/handling weight is 7 lb.
3) How does the 10104 WPSC mount to a wall, and do the fasteners break the enclosure seal?
It mounts with external mounting feet, so your anchors go through flanges on the outside of the box and never penetrate the enclosure wall. Nothing is drilled through the back, and the Type 3/3R integrity stays intact. Four lag screws or masonry anchors into the wall carry the 7 lb box easily.
4) Will a Type 3/3R box hold up in a washdown or oily indoor area?
It is rated Type 3 and 12, so it covers indoor dust, falling dirt and dripping non-corrosive liquids as well as outdoor rain, and the cover gasket is oil-resistant. What it is not is a washdown enclosure. Direct hose-down duty needs a Type 4 or 4X, and corrosive or chemical environments need stainless 4X rather than painted carbon steel.
5) Does this B-Line enclosure come with knockouts or do I have to punch my own conduit holes?
The WPSC series is supplied without knockouts, so you drill or punch your own hub and connector openings where the run enters. That is the point of the style: on a Type 3/3R outdoor box you place the openings on the bottom or the sides and seal them with raintight hubs or fittings, and any factory knockout in the wrong place would compromise the rating. Body is 16 gauge carbon steel, so a standard hydraulic or manual knockout punch handles it.
6) Is a screw cover the right choice, or should I be looking at a hinged door enclosure?
A screw cover like the 10104 WPSC is for boxes you open rarely: pull points, splice boxes, junction points. The flanged cover comes off completely and the gasketed screws hold it against the perimeter gasket, which gives a clean seal but means you are handling a loose cover up a ladder. If the box houses a disconnect, controls or anything you will access regularly, order a hinged-door enclosure instead so the cover stays captive.
7) Can I paint or label this enclosure to match other gear on the site?
It ships painted in ANSI 61 grey, the standard utility and industrial control grey, so it already matches most switchgear and control panels. The carbon steel painted finish takes a compatible topcoat if a facility standard calls for a different color, and the flat 10 by 10 inch cover gives room for engraved nameplates or arc-flash labels.
8) Is 16 gauge steel heavy enough for a junction box in a parking garage or loading dock?
The 10104 WPSC body is 16 gauge carbon steel, which is the usual weight for small industrial junction boxes and stands up to incidental knocks in garages, docks and mechanical rooms. Where carts or equipment actually strike the box, mount it above impact height or set a bollard or angle guard in front of it; gauge alone will not survive a forklift.
