1) Can the Eaton B-Line 1084 WPSC junction box be used outdoors?
Yes. The 1084 WPSC is a NEMA Type 3 enclosure, which is the outdoor rating for rain, sleet and windblown dust, and the description also carries a Type 12 (indoor dust and dripping liquid) rating. Sealing comes from an oil-resistant gasket and gasketed cover screws. It is UL 50 listed.
2) What are the actual box dimensions on the B-Line 1084 WPSC enclosure?
It measures 10 inches high, 8 inches wide and 4 inches deep, which is where the 1084 model designation comes from. Weight is 6 lb. Mounting feet sit outside the box, so the footprint on the wall is wider than 8 inches.
3) Does drilling this enclosure for conduit void the NEMA 3R rating?
The 1084 WPSC ships without knockouts, so you cut your own openings. The Type 3 rating holds only if every penetration uses a raintight fitting or hub with the matching rating, and openings are made on the sides or bottom rather than the top. Cut a plain hole in the top and the enclosure no longer performs as a Type 3 box.
4) How does the cover come off for wiring, and is it hinged?
It is a screw cover with a flanged lip, not a hinged door. The cover lifts completely off once the gasketed screws are backed out, which gives full access for pulling and terminating, but means someone has to hold the cover during service. If you want a swing door you need a hinged-cover enclosure instead.
5) How is the 1084 WPSC mounted, and do I lose the seal if I bolt through the back?
Surface mount, using external mounting feet welded to the outside of the box. You bolt through the feet, not the back panel, so the enclosure stays sealed. At 6 lb empty it sits fine on strut, plywood backing, or masonry anchors.
6) What gauge steel and finish is this B-Line junction box, and will it hold up outside?
Carbon steel at 16 gauge, painted in ANSI 61 grey. That is a standard industrial gauge and finish for exterior electrical work. In coastal or washdown chemical environments, a stainless or non-metallic enclosure is the better call, since painted carbon steel will rust wherever the coating gets scratched.
7) Does the 1084 WPSC come with a back panel for mounting components?
No panel is included. The 1084 WPSC is a screw-cover junction box for splices and terminations, not a control enclosure with a subpanel. If you are mounting relays, terminal blocks or a small controller, order the matching back panel separately or choose an enclosure supplied with one.
