B-LINE 1084 SCG – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What are the inside dimensions of the 1084 SCG enclosure, and will a small contactor or terminal strip fit?
The box measures 10 inches high, 8 inches wide and 4 inches deep. That 4 inch depth is the number that decides most jobs: it gives room for a back-mounted terminal strip, a small contactor or a compact relay, but it is tight for anything with a deep body or a front-projecting handle mechanism. There is no panel or back plate supplied with it, so anything you mount inside is drilled and fastened by you.
2) Does the B-Line 1084 SCG junction box come with mounting feet or knockouts?
No. The 1084 SCG ships with no mounting provisions and no factory holes, and the body is unpunched. It is a surface-mount enclosure, so you drill your own mounting holes or add external mounting brackets, and you punch your own conduit entries. Any hole you make in the wall of a Type 3R box needs a raintight hub or sealing fitting, otherwise the rating is lost the moment you drill it.
3) Screw cover or hinged door enclosure, which should I use for a junction box like this?
The 1084 SCG uses a screw-down cover, which is the right choice for a splice or pull point you rarely open: the gasketed screws clamp evenly all the way round and keep the Type 3R seal honest. If the box holds controls or terminals someone will access weekly, a hinged or clamped-cover enclosure saves you handling loose screws on a ladder every time. Screw covers are also the harder cover to get into casually, which is why they get specified in exposed and public areas.
4) Is the Eaton B-Line 1084 SCG UL listed, and where is it made?
The enclosure is built to UL 50, the standard covering enclosures for electrical equipment. It is manufactured in the United States, which matters on federal, state and institutional work carrying domestic-sourcing requirements.
5) Is the 1084 SCG painted, and can it be field painted to match a building?
It ships unfinished, bare galvanized steel with a grey mill appearance. There is no paint or powder coat on it. If a property manager needs it to blend in, galvanized will take paint only after proper etch priming for zinc; standard primers peel off galvanizing. Where a finished colour matters more than the raw galvanized corrosion protection, a painted steel enclosure is the easier specification.
