Yes, for outdoor use where falling rain is the concern. The 18184 RTSC carries a NEMA 3R rating and includes a rain hood over the cover, so it handles rain, sleet and external ice formation. It is not a washdown or hosedown enclosure, so if the location sees direct spray or coolant, step up to a 4 or 4X enclosure instead.

18 inches high by 18 inches wide with a 4 inch depth. That shallow 4 inch back-to-front dimension is the number to check first: it limits how much wire bending room and device depth you get, so confirm your breakers, terminal blocks or contactors fit within 4 inches before ordering.

The bottom panel comes with 9 knockouts already provided, so bottom conduit entries are punched out rather than drilled. Sides, top and back are solid, so any entry other than the bottom means you are drilling or punching the 16 gauge carbon steel yourself. On a 3R enclosure, keep penetrations on the bottom or use rated hubs up top so you don't defeat the rating.

Screw cover. The 18184 RTSC uses a flanged cover secured with plated screws, so you back the screws out and lift the cover off completely for access. If you need a door that swings on a hinge and latches for frequent access, this is not the right box style for that.

Surface mounting, using embossed through holes in the back of the enclosure. Mounting fasteners and any pole or strut mounting brackets are not part of the box, so pick up anchors suited to your substrate separately. At 15.8 lb empty, plan anchors for that plus the weight of whatever gear you install inside.

It is built to UL 50, the standard covering enclosures for electrical equipment, and it is made in the US. That plus the NEMA 3R rating is usually what a submittal package needs for an outdoor rain-tight junction box.

Painted carbon steel in ANSI 61 grey, the standard light grey used across most industrial control enclosures. If your site is already standardized on ANSI 61 gear, this will match without field painting.

16 gauge carbon steel is the common wall thickness for screw cover enclosures in this size class and stands up to normal exterior service, but it will dent under vehicle or cart impact. In loading docks, parking structures or equipment yards, put the box above bumper height or add a guard rather than relying on the shell.
