B-LINE 302410 RTSC – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Eaton B-Line 302410 RTSC junction box be mounted outdoors?
Yes. The 302410 RTSC carries a NEMA 3R rating and a rain hood over the cover, so it is built for outdoor wall mounting where falling rain, sleet and ice are the exposure. NEMA 3R is not a washdown or hosedown rating, so keep it off surfaces that get pressure sprayed and don't use it where it will be submerged or exposed to driven dust.
2) Does the 302410 RTSC come with knockouts already, or do I have to punch my own conduit holes?
Nine knockouts are provided in the bottom of the enclosure. Bottom-only entry is deliberate on a 3R box, since penetrating the top or the hood side defeats the rain rating. If you need side or top entry, you'll be drilling and sealing with a listed raintight hub, and that becomes your responsibility for maintaining the 3R rating.
3) Is the cover on the 302410 RTSC hinged or does it screw on?
Screw cover, flanged. You back out the plated screws and lift the whole cover off rather than swinging a door. That's fine for a splice or pull box you open rarely, but if you are terminating to devices that need regular access, or working on a ladder where a loose 24 by 30 inch cover is a hazard, specify a hinged-door enclosure instead.
4) What are the actual box dimensions on the B-Line 302410 RTSC enclosure?
30 inches high, 24 inches wide and 10 inches deep. That 10 inch depth is what gives you room for wire bending space, gutter runs and back-panel mounted components rather than just splices. Overall shipping weight is 49.3 lb, so plan a two-man lift or a hoist when setting it on a wall.
5) How does this B-Line enclosure attach to the wall?
It is a surface-mount box with embossed thru holes in the back. The embossing stands the mounting hole off the back wall so water that runs down the surface behind the box has a drainage path and doesn't wick into the fastener hole. Fasteners aren't part of the box, so pick anchors rated for the 49.3 lb enclosure plus whatever you fill it with.
6) What is the 302410 RTSC made of and will it rust outdoors?
14 gauge carbon steel with a painted finish in ANSI 61 grey. Painted steel holds up in normal outdoor and industrial air, but it is not stainless: in coastal salt air, on a chemical site, or anywhere the paint gets scraped, the cut edges and screw heads are where corrosion starts. Touch up any field-drilled hole. For corrosive service, move to a stainless or non-metallic 4X enclosure.
7) Does the B-Line 302410 RTSC include a back panel for mounting components?
No back panel is part of the enclosure. The RTSC is a screw-cover junction and pull box, sold as the shell with nine bottom knockouts. If your drawing calls for relays, terminal blocks or a small controller inside, order a matching sub-panel and mounting kit separately, or select an enclosure type that ships with one.
8) Is a NEMA 3R screw-cover box enough, or should I be buying a NEMA 1 for an indoor pull box?
For a dry indoor electrical room, a NEMA 1 box costs less and does the job. Step up to a 3R unit like the 302410 RTSC when the box is outdoors, on a rooftop, in an unheated parking structure, or anywhere condensation drips from overhead pipe. The rain hood and 3R construction on this one is only worth paying for where water can actually land on it.
9) Will the ANSI 61 grey finish match the rest of the gear on my site?
ANSI 61 grey is the standard light grey used across most North American switchgear, panelboards and control enclosures, so the 302410 RTSC will read as a match next to typical utility and industrial equipment. Useful for facility crews standardizing appearance across a campus. It is a painted carbon steel finish, so field touch-up paint in ANSI 61 is worth keeping on the truck.
10) Where is the Eaton B-Line 302410 RTSC enclosure made?
Manufactured in the United States. That matters on federally funded work and on institutional specs carrying domestic sourcing language, so it is worth noting on the submittal.
