B-LINE 362410 RTHC – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the B-Line 362410 RTHC enclosure be mounted outdoors?
Yes. The 362410 RTHC carries a NEMA 3R rating, which covers outdoor use against falling rain, sleet and snow, and it ships with a rain hood. It is not a washdown or hosedown box, so if the location sees direct pressure spray or wind-driven water you want a 4 or 4X enclosure instead. Mounting is surface, with embossed thru holes in the back for fasteners.
2) What are the actual box dimensions of the B-Line 362410 RTHC junction box?
36 inches high, 24 inches wide and 10 inches deep. The model designation reads the same way: 36 x 24 x 10. Allow clearance above for the rain hood and to the hinge side so the door can swing clear.
3) Is the cover on the 362410 RTHC hinged or a screw-on lift-off panel?
Both, in effect. The cover is hinged on a formed top hinge so it swings up and stays with the box for routine access, and it is also removable if you need the opening clear to set gear or pull a large bundle. A screw-cover box makes you handle a loose 24 x 36 panel on a ladder every time; the formed top hinge avoids that.
4) How heavy is this 36x24x10 B-Line enclosure, and what does that mean for mounting?
66 pounds empty. That is a two-man lift once you add conduit and gear, and the wall or strut rack has to carry it: fasten through the embossed thru holes into structure or a Unistrut frame, not into drywall anchors or sheathing alone. The 14 gauge carbon steel body is what puts the weight there.
5) Can this B-Line enclosure be padlocked?
Yes, the hinged door has a padlock provision, so you can secure it with your own padlock in a mechanical room, a rooftop or an exterior wall location. No lock or padlock is supplied with the box.
6) Does this junction box come with knockouts or do I have to punch my own conduit entries?
The 362410 RTHC is supplied with 9 knockouts, so common conduit runs land without punching. If your entry sizes or locations do not match, you will be hole-sawing or punching 14 gauge steel, which needs a knockout punch rather than a step bit.
7) Is the B-Line 362410 RTHC UL listed, and what finish is it?
It is built to UL 50, the enclosure standard for electrical equipment. The body is painted carbon steel in ANSI 61 grey, the standard gear-grey that matches most switchboard and panel lineups, so it will not look out of place beside existing equipment.
8) Is a carbon steel 3R box the right choice for a coastal or corrosive site?
Not the best pick there. The 362410 RTHC is painted carbon steel, which does fine on a rooftop or an inland exterior wall but will eventually rust at cut edges and knockouts in salt air or where chemicals are washed around. For those locations specify a stainless or non-metallic 4X enclosure of the same 36 x 24 x 10 size.
9) Is this an enclosure I can mount gear inside, or is it just a pull box?
It is a single-door enclosure 10 inches deep, which is enough room behind the door for terminal blocks, relays or a small back panel as well as straight pull and splice work. Any subpanel or mounting rails are ordered separately; the box ships as the enclosure with its hinged door.
