1) Can the B-Line 666 RTSCGV junction box be mounted outdoors?
Yes. The 666 RTSCGV is a NEMA Type 3R enclosure, which means it is built for outdoor use against falling rain, sleet and snow. It carries a rainhood over the cover and the body is galvanized steel, so it suits wall-mounted exterior runs, rooftop equipment and service yard pull points. Type 3R is not a washdown or submersion rating, so keep it off direct hose-down locations.
2) Does the B-Line 666 RTSCGV come with knockouts already punched?
Three knockouts are provided in the bottom of the box only. The sides, back and top are solid, which is what keeps the 3R rating intact when it's mounted vertically on a wall. Any additional entries you punch on the top or sides have to be sealed with rated fittings, or you lose the rain rating.
3) What are the inside dimensions of the 6x6x6 B-Line RTSCGV enclosure and will it take a few splices?
It's a 6 inch cube: 6 inches high, 6 inches wide and 6 inches deep. That's enough room for a small pull or splice point on a branch circuit run, not for terminating device blocks or large conductor bundles. The whole box weighs 4 pounds.
4) How does this B-Line screw cover box mount to a wall?
Surface mount, using embossed thru holes in the back of the enclosure. The embossing keeps the mounting fasteners from breaking the weather seal of the box interior, so it can be fastened straight to a wall, strut or equipment skirt without added standoffs. Mounting fasteners for your substrate are not part of the enclosure.
5) Is a screw cover box the right choice, or should I use a hinged door enclosure?
A screw cover like the 666 RTSCGV is for points you rarely open: pull boxes, splice points, junction points behind or beside equipment. The cover comes off entirely with plated screws, which is fine once a year and a nuisance if you're in it weekly. If the box will be opened routinely for testing or adjustment, choose a hinged cover enclosure instead so the cover stays captive.
6) What gauge steel is the B-Line RTSCGV enclosure and is it painted?
The body is 16 gauge galvanized steel, left unfinished, so the visible color is the grey of the galvanizing rather than a paint coat. Unfinished galvanized is standard for exterior and utility locations; if you need a color match to a building facade it will have to be field prepped and painted.
