1) Is the Eaton B-Line 4418 G wireway rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. The 4418 G is a NEMA 1 enclosure, which is indoor, general purpose only. It keeps fingers and falling dirt out of the wiring but offers no protection against rain, splashing water, or washdown. For an exterior wall, a rooftop run, or a wet process area you need a NEMA 3R or NEMA 4 raintight or watertight wireway instead.
2) What size is the 4418 G wireway trough and how long a section is it?
It is a 4 x 4 inch trough, 18 inches long. That 4 by 4 cross section is the standard small-gutter size electricians run above panelboards and along control sections, and the 18 inch length is a short section for tight jumps between enclosures rather than a full run.
3) Does this B-Line wireway have knockouts already punched, or do I have to drill it?
It comes with thru holes for mounting plus 5 knockouts on the top and 5 on the bottom, so most feeder and branch entries into panels or gutters above and below are already provided for. Side penetrations you would still have to punch in the field.
4) How does the cover come off on the 4418 G, and is it a hinged or screw cover?
Screw cover, not hinged. The cover is secured with plated screws, so pulling wire means backing the screws out and setting the cover aside. On a run you re-enter often, a hinged cover wireway is easier to live with; on a run you close up once, the screw cover is fine and holds the cover flat.
5) Is the Eaton B-Line 4418 G wireway listed or certified for use in Canada?
The 4418 G is CSA Certified, which is what an inspector in Canada will be looking for on an indoor NEMA 1 gutter. That certification is stated on the product itself, not inferred from the family.
6) How do you mount an 18 inch B-Line wireway section to a wall or strut?
Mounting is through thru holes in the back of the trough, so it fastens flat to a wall, a backboard, or strut with your own hardware. Fasteners and any strut, brackets, or connectors to join sections are not part of the section itself, so order those with it if the run is more than one piece.
7) What gauge steel is the 4418 G wireway and what color does it come in?
16 gauge steel, finished in ANSI 61 gray. That is the standard gray used on panelboards, switchboards, and control enclosures, so a run of this will match the gear it feeds rather than standing out. Section weight is 4.961 lb.
