The 4424-4XSFW is a NEMA 4X wireway in 304 stainless steel with a seamless poured-in-place gasket, so it is built for hose-down and corrosive wet areas such as food processing, wastewater and coastal exterior runs. It also carries CSA C22.2 certification. If your run is a dry indoor environment, a painted steel NEMA 1 wireway would be the cheaper choice.

It is a 4 x 4 inch cross section, 24 inches long. That 4 x 4 profile is the standard small-trough size for feeder and control wiring pulls, and it lines up with other 4 x 4 wireway sections and fittings in the same series for longer runs.

This is a straight 24 inch trough section only. A complete run also needs connectors or couplings between sections, end plates to close the run, elbows or tees where it changes direction, and wireway hangers for support, since this section is hanger-mounted. Keep all of that in matching 4 x 4 4X stainless so the enclosure rating is not broken at a fitting.

Hinged. The cover on the 4424-4XSFW stays attached on hinges and is held shut with screwclamps and stainless steel hardware, so an electrician can open the trough for a pull or a splice without setting a loose cover down on a wet floor. Screw-cover versions are a separate part number.

It is designed for wireway hanger support rather than direct flat-surface bolting, so plan on hangers at the spacing your run and fill weight require. The section itself weighs 8.498 lb empty, which is the figure to start from when you add conductor weight for hanger and strut sizing.

304 stainless with a NEMA 4X rating handles washdown, humidity and general corrosion. Heavy chloride exposure, pool chemistry or marine salt spray is where specifiers usually step up to 316 stainless instead. For standard food and beverage, dairy and general wet-location work, this 304 section is the normal spec.

16 gauge 304 stainless with a #4 brushed finish. The brushed finish matters on exposed architectural and food-plant installs where the trough is visible and has to match adjacent stainless equipment and panels.
