It's a NEMA 12 wireway with an oil-resistant gasket under the cover, so it's built for indoor use where dust, dripping liquids and oil are a concern, typical of machine shops and industrial plants. NEMA 12 is not a wet-location or outdoor rating, so for rain or hose-down washdown areas you need a NEMA 3R or 4X wireway instead.

The cover is hinged, carried on butt hinges with quick-release latches, so it swings open by hand without removing screws. That matters for a run you'll be pulling or re-pulling conductors in, and it means you need swing clearance along the length of the trough where you mount it.

The trough section measures 6 inches high, 12 inches wide and 24 inches long. That 6 x 12 cross-section is the wire-fill area, and the 24 inch length is one straight section, so plan your run as multiples of section lengths plus fittings.

The 12624-12LW carries CSA C22.2 certification, which is the Canadian standard series for electrical enclosures, so it can be specified on Canadian jobs as well as US ones.

Go hinged, like this 12LW section, where you expect to open the trough again: adding circuits, tapping conductors, troubleshooting, or anywhere working above your head where loose cover screws are a nuisance. Screw-cover wireway is the choice when the run is set-and-forget, or where you want the extra deterrent of a cover that doesn't simply unlatch. The tradeoff with hinged is that you must leave swing room on one side of the 6 x 12 trough.

14 gauge steel, painted ANSI 61 gray. ANSI 61 is the standard gray used on most industrial panels, disconnects and control enclosures, so a run of this wireway will match typical existing gear in a plant or mechanical room.
