1) Is the Eaton B-Line 8848 G wireway rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. The 8848 G is a NEMA 1 enclosure, which is indoor, general-purpose protection against incidental contact and falling dirt only. It has no gasketing and the cover is held by plated screws, so rain, washdown, or damp exterior walls call for a NEMA 3R raintight trough instead. It is CSA Certified.
2) How do I mount this B-Line wireway to a wall or strut?
The back of the 8848 G is punched with thru holes, so it bolts directly to a wall, backboard, or strut channel without drilling the enclosure. Fasteners and any strut or brackets are not part of the trough itself and get ordered separately.
3) Does this wireway have knockouts already punched, or do I have to drill it?
Punched. The 48 inch section comes with 15 knockouts along the top and 15 along the bottom, so conduit can drop into panels, disconnects, or machine bases at regular intervals without field drilling. Sides and ends are solid, so any side penetration is a field cut.
4) Screw cover versus hinged cover wireway: which should I use?
The 8848 G is a screw cover trough, held on with plated screws the full length of the section. That's the right pick for a run you pull once and rarely open again, and it holds the cover tight against sag on long horizontal runs. If you are into the trough regularly for troubleshooting or adding circuits, a hinged cover version saves you backing out and keeping track of screws every time.
5) What gauge steel is the 8848 G wireway, and will it hold up in a shop or plant?
