B-LINE 22 HSL SIDE – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the B-Line 22 HSL SIDE elbow fit my 2-1/2 inch square wireway?
Yes. The 22 HSL SIDE is built for 2.5 x 2.5 inch lay-in wireway, matching the 2.5 in height and 2.5 in width of the trough. It is a 90 degree elbow with a side opening, so it turns the run horizontally within the same 2-1/2 inch cross section. It will not adapt between sizes, so a 4 x 4 or 6 x 6 run needs the elbow made for that size.
2) Is this B-Line wireway elbow rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. It is NEMA 1 rated, which is indoor, general purpose enclosure protection against incidental contact and falling dirt only. For a rooftop, washdown area, or anywhere exposed to rain, you need a NEMA 3R or 4 rated raintight wireway and matching fittings instead.
3) What is the difference between a side opening 90 degree wireway elbow and a top or bottom opening one?
A side opening elbow turns the run in the flat plane, left or right along a wall, and the removable cover is on the side face so you can lay conductors in from the side. A top or bottom opening elbow turns the run up or down, changing elevation. The 22 HSL SIDE is the side opening version, so pick it when the 2-1/2 inch wireway has to make a horizontal 90 and you want to lay wire in rather than pull it.
4) Is the 22 HSL SIDE elbow UL Listed?
Yes, the elbow is UL Listed, which is what an inspector or a spec on a commercial job will typically call for on wireway fittings. It carries the NEMA 1 indoor rating alongside that listing.
5) How much space do I need to allow for a 2-1/2 inch side opening wireway elbow?
Allow roughly 7.292 inches on the length/depth dimension, with the 2.5 by 2.5 inch cross section. That is the figure to use when you are laying out a turn near a panel, a corner, or a column and need to know how far the fitting runs past the corner before the straight section picks up.
6) Will this elbow match the gray finish on the wireway already installed in my building?
The elbow is steel with an ANSI 61 gray painted finish, which is the standard gray used across B-Line wireway and most industrial enclosures, so it blends with existing ANSI 61 gray trough and fittings. If your run is white, beige, or stainless, it will not match.
