B-LINE 6688 FR – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the B-Line 6688 FR wireway reducer actually do on a wireway run?
The Eaton B-Line 6688 FR is a wireway reducer fitting, meaning it joins two different wireway trough sizes in the same run so conductors can pass from a larger trough into a smaller one without an open transition. It uses the HSCA adapter style connector for the joint. It is steel, finished in ANSI 61 gray paint.
2) Is the B-Line 6688 FR reducer rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. It is a NEMA Type 1 fitting, which is indoor, general purpose enclosure protection only, guarding against incidental contact with the enclosed wiring and falling dirt. For rain, washdown, or exterior runs you need a Type 3R or Type 4 rated wireway fitting instead, not this one.
3) Is the B-Line 6688 FR reducer UL Listed for an inspected commercial job?
Yes, the 6688 FR carries a UL Listing. That is the piece most inspectors want to see on a wireway transition fitting, along with the NEMA Type 1 indoor rating it is built to.
4) Will the 6688 FR reducer paint match the rest of my existing B-Line wireway run?
It is painted ANSI 61 gray, the standard gray used across Eaton B-Line NEMA 1 wireway trough and fittings, so it blends with an existing B-Line lay-in wireway run in the same finish. If your existing trough is a different color or a galvanized/stainless system, the finishes will not match.
5) What part number do I order for this B-Line wireway reducer, and is there more than one version?
There is one model, ordered as B-Line 6688 FR. It is the NEMA 1 steel reducer with the HSCA adapter style connector in ANSI 61 gray. No finish, size, or material options to specify.
6) Can I use a steel wireway reducer like the 6688 FR in a corrosive or chemical area?
Not a good choice. The 6688 FR is painted steel in an indoor Type 1 rating, so it has no corrosion allowance for chemical exposure, washdown, or coastal humidity. In those areas specify a stainless or coated wireway system rated Type 4X rather than a painted steel Type 1 fitting.
