B-LINE 8824-12LW – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What are the actual dimensions of the B-Line 8824-12LW wireway straight section?
The 8824-12LW is an 8 x 8 inch cross section running 24 inches long, so it is a 2-foot stick of 8x8 wireway. Weight is 19.218 lb, which matters if you are hanging a long run off trapeze or strut supports and totaling the load.
2) Is this 8x8 wireway rated for a dusty or dripping-water industrial area?
It is built to NEMA 12, which covers indoor protection against falling dirt, circulating dust, lint and dripping non-corrosive liquids. That suits it to plant floors, mechanical rooms and process areas. It is not a NEMA 3R or 4X enclosure, so do not use it outdoors, in washdown, or in corrosive environments.
3) Is the B-Line 8824-12LW wireway UL Listed for an inspected commercial job?
Yes, the 8824-12LW straight section is UL Listed, which is what most AHJs want to see on an auxiliary gutter or wireway installation.
4) What does lay-in mean on this B-Line wireway, and why would I pick it over a conduit run?
Lay-in means the cover comes off along the length so conductors drop straight into the trough instead of being pulled through. On a run with lots of pulls, taps or future changes, that saves the pulling labor a conduit run demands. For a fixed point-to-point circuit in a finished space, conduit is usually the cheaper answer; wireway earns its place where many conductors share a path and get reworked.
5) Will this wireway match the gray equipment and panels already in my plant?
The finish is ANSI 61 gray paint, the same standard gray used on most industrial control panels, switchgear and motor control centers, so a run of this wireway ties into existing gear visually. Body is steel, not aluminum or stainless.
