B-LINE 121248 GGV NK – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Eaton B-Line 121248 GGV NK wireway rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. The 121248 GGV NK trough is a NEMA 1 enclosure, which is indoor, general purpose only, with no gasketing against dust or water. Keep it inside dry mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, and interior walls. For a washdown area, loading dock, or anything exposed to weather, you need a NEMA 3R or 4 rated raintight wireway instead.
2) Does this 12x12 B-Line trough come with knockouts for conduit?
No knockouts. The GGV NK designation means no knockouts, so every conduit entry has to be punched or hole sawed in the field wherever your runs land. That is usually what a contractor wants on a 12 by 12 gutter feeding multiple panels, but if you were expecting factory knockouts to land your EMT in, plan on bringing a punch set.
3) How is this wiring trough mounted to a wall or strut?
Through holes in the back of the trough. The 121248 GGV NK is supplied for thru hole mounting, so you fasten it directly to the wall, backboard, or strut with your own hardware. Mounting fasteners and any strut, brackets, or hangers are not part of the trough, so spec those separately, and size them for the load: the section itself weighs about 40.076 lb empty before any conductors go in.
4) How does the cover come off on the B-Line GGV NK wireway, hinged or screwed?
Screw cover. The cover is secured with plated screws along its length, so it lifts off completely once the screws are out rather than swinging on a hinge. That gives you unobstructed access to the whole gutter for pulling and splicing, but budget time for removing and reinstalling the screws on long runs, and keep the loose covers where they won't get walked on.
5) What gauge steel and finish is the B-Line 121248 GGV NK trough, and will it hold up in an unheated indoor space?
14 gauge galvanized steel, finished gray. The galvanized base under the gray finish gives it more corrosion tolerance than plain painted steel in a damp but sheltered space like an unheated garage or parking structure interior, and 14 gauge is heavy enough that a 12 in wide cover span stays rigid. It is still a NEMA 1 enclosure, so it is not a substitute for a raintight trough where water can reach it.
6) Is the B-Line 121248 GGV NK wireway certified for use in Canada?
It is CSA Certified, which is the listing most Canadian AHJs look for on a wiring trough. That matters for institutional and government work north of the border where uncertified enclosures get rejected on inspection.
7) Can I join several of these troughs together to make a longer run?
Yes, wireway is built to be run in sections, and this one is a 48 in length, so three sections make a 12 foot run. Couplings, connectors, end plates, elbows, and tees are ordered separately from the trough body, and they must match the 12 by 12 cross section and the GGV screw cover series so the covers and flanges line up. A gutter shipped as a body only will not close out a run on its own.
