1) Do I need a gasketed condulet cover, or is the standard one enough?
Depends where the condulet sits. The standard wedge nut covers (270F in Feraloy, 270F SA in cast aluminum) are the plain option for dry interior runs. If the body is outdoors, in a washdown area, or anywhere moisture gets at it, take one of the integral gasket versions: 270FG Feraloy, 270G SA aluminum, or 270SG steel snaptight. The gasket is built into the cover, so there is no separate gasket to order or lose on the job.
2) Can I use this Crouse-Hinds Form 7 cover in a Class I hazardous area?
No. The Form 7 Condulet cover is rated for ordinary, non-hazardous locations only. For a classified area you need an explosionproof condulet and cover assembly listed for that class, division and group. Putting an ordinary-location cover on a hazardous-location run will not pass inspection.
3) Should I order the Feraloy or the aluminum Form 7 condulet cover?
Match the cover material to the body you are covering. Feraloy (Crouse-Hinds iron alloy) covers are 270F standard and 270FG gasketed; cast aluminum are 270F SA standard and 270G SA gasketed. Mixing aluminum hardware onto iron bodies, or the reverse, is generally avoided in the field to keep dissimilar metal contact out of the joint, so spec the cover in the same material as the condulet.
4) What is the snaptight version of the condulet cover for, versus the wedge nut style?
The 270SG is a steel snaptight cover with an integral gasket, so it goes on and comes off without the wedge nut hardware. That matters on condulets you open repeatedly for pulling or troubleshooting. The wedge nut covers (270F, 270F SA, 270FG, 270G SA) are the conventional fastened style for boxes you close up and leave.
5) Does this cover satisfy NEC and Canadian Electrical Code for a commercial job?
The Form 7 Condulet cover is built to NEC/CEC standards, which is why it works for jobs specified on either side of the border. Keep in mind the compliance applies to ordinary, non-hazardous locations, which is the area classification this cover is rated for.
