1) Will a Crouse-Hinds Quick-Lok QLK connector work with MC cable and flexible metal conduit?
Yes. The Quick-Lok QLK connector is built for AC/MC cable and FMC, so it terminates armored cable, metal-clad cable, and flex into a box with one fitting. Trade sizes are 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch. It is not intended for EMT or rigid, which need their own set-screw or threaded fittings.
2) What is the difference between the QLK50S and QLK50D Quick-Lok connectors?
Both are 1/2 inch. QLK50S is the single connector, one cable into one knockout. QLK50D is the duplex, two cables through a single 1/2 inch knockout. Use the duplex where you are feeding a device box with a home run and a switch leg and running short on knockouts. In 3/4 inch the part number is QLK75.
3) Can Quick-Lok QLK connectors be used in a hazardous or classified area?
No. The QLK is rated for ordinary, non-hazardous locations only. Classified areas (Class I, II or III) need explosionproof or hazardous-location rated fittings, not a Quick-Lok. For normal commercial, retail, office, school, and healthcare branch circuit work in unclassified space, the QLK is the right fitting.
4) Are Crouse-Hinds QLK connectors code compliant for commercial work?
The QLK line is manufactured to NEC/CEC standards, which is what an inspector is looking for on a commercial or institutional job in the US or Canada. The body is steel, so it is a suitable fitting for a metallic raceway system where the conduit or cable armor is part of the equipment grounding path.
5) Are Quick-Lok connectors steel or die-cast zinc?
Steel. That matters on a job where a spec calls out steel fittings, and it holds up better to being stepped on in a plenum or pulled hard during a rough-in than a die-cast body. Steel also keeps the ground path continuous through the fitting on an MC or flex run.
6) Which size Quick-Lok do I need for 12/2 MC cable versus a larger flex run?
Trade size follows the cable or conduit, not the wire. Standard 12/2 and 12/3 MC lands in the 1/2 inch fitting, QLK50S, and two of those cables can share one knockout with the duplex QLK50D. Larger MC and 3/4 inch flex take the QLK75. Match the fitting trade size to the cable or flex trade size you are terminating.
7) Why use a Quick-Lok snap-in connector instead of a screw-type MC connector?
The Quick-Lok design snaps the cable in and the fitting into the knockout without a locknut on the inside of the box, so you are not reaching into a crowded box with a screwdriver and pliers. On a repetitive job, a device box per unit across a whole floor, that time adds up. A screw-type connector is still the choice when you need to back a cable out and reuse the fitting; a snap-in is meant to stay put.
8) Can I use the duplex QLK50D to get two MC cables into one knockout?
That is exactly what the duplex is for. QLK50D takes two AC/MC or flex runs through a single 1/2 inch knockout, which is the fix when a 4-square or device box has more cables arriving than it has openings. Box fill still governs how many conductors the box can hold; the duplex solves knockouts, not fill.
