1) Should I order Feraloy iron alloy or copper-free aluminum for a Condulet UB body?
Both materials are offered across the size range. Feraloy iron alloy is the heavier ferrous casting and is the only one offered with the hot dip galvanized finish, which is what you want outdoors, in wash-down areas, or anywhere the run sees weather and road salt. Copper-free aluminum comes in the standard finish only and is the lighter choice for indoor or overhead runs where you are fighting weight on a strut rack. Copper-free matters where the atmosphere would attack a copper-bearing alloy.
2) Does a Crouse-Hinds UB conduit body come with a cover, or do I have to buy that separately?
It depends on which build you order. Three cover arrangements exist: With SnapPack (body supplied with the cover packed with it), With Gasket and Cover, and Without Cover. If you order Without Cover you have to buy a mogul cover, and a gasket if the location needs one, as a separate line item. The Gasket and Cover builds are offered in 2 inch and 3 inch Feraloy iron alloy.
3) Can I use a Condulet B mogul conduit body in a Class I or Class II hazardous area?
No. These B mogul UB and UBXL bodies are rated for ordinary, non-hazardous locations only. For a classified area you need a body from an explosionproof line rated for that class, division and group, not this one. Putting an ordinary-location body in a classified space fails inspection.
4) Will a hot dip galvanized Condulet body hold up outdoors and on a rooftop conduit run?
Hot dip galvanized Feraloy iron alloy is the corrosion-resistant build in the line and is what gets specified for exterior, rooftop and damp industrial runs. Pair it with a gasketed cover if the enclosure needs to keep water out; the gasket is part of the With Gasket and Cover builds and is not included with a plain SnapPack or Without Cover body.
5) Do these conduit bodies meet code for a commercial electrical inspection?
The B mogul Condulet line is built to NEC/CEC requirements for ordinary-location conduit bodies, which is what an inspector looks for on commercial distribution, institutional and multi-unit work. They serve as the pull and access point in a rigid or IMC run.
6) Why order a mogul conduit body instead of a standard one for a 3 inch run?
Mogul bodies carry the deeper, larger-volume casting used on the bigger trade sizes, which is what gives you room to make the bend radius on large conductors during a pull. On a 3 or 4 inch run with heavy feeders, the mogul volume is what keeps you from damaging insulation. The UBXL takes that further with extra volume in the same U configuration.
7) Is the 4 inch Condulet UB available in hot dip galvanized?
Yes, the 4 inch is offered in Feraloy iron alloy with hot dip galvanized finish and a SnapPack cover. The 4 inch is also available in standard-finish Feraloy and in copper-free aluminum, either with SnapPack or without a cover.
