Eaton DH365URK – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the difference between the Eaton DH fusible and non-fusible safety switch?
The fusible DH switches carry fuses for overcurrent protection, and the DH takes Class H fuses. The non-fusible versions, DH365UGK in NEMA 1 and DH365URK in NEMA 3R, are disconnect only: they break the circuit for service and lockout but provide no overcurrent protection, so your protection has to come from upstream. If the drawing calls for a fused disconnect at the equipment, you want DH365FGK (NEMA 1) or DH366FRK (NEMA 3R).
2) Can I mount an Eaton DH safety switch outdoors?
Only the NEMA 3R versions. DH365URK (non-fusible) and DH366FRK (fusible) are the 3R enclosures, which is the rainproof outdoor rating for rooftop condensers, pump panels, and exterior walls. DH365FGK and DH365UGK are NEMA 1, general purpose indoor only, and should not be used where rain or dripping water can reach them.
3) Will the Eaton DH switch work on a 480V three-phase motor circuit?
Yes. The DH heavy duty switch is rated 600V and is a three-pole, three-wire device, so it covers 208V, 240V, and 480V three-phase systems. The three poles break all three ungrounded conductors; a neutral, if your circuit has one, is landed on a separate neutral kit rather than switched.
4) What fuses do I need to buy for the fusible Eaton DH disconnect?
The fusible DH switches are built for Class H fuses, so the fuse clips accept Class H bodies sized to your load. Fuses ship separately, they are not included with the switch. If your design calls for current-limiting protection instead, a Class H clip set will not accept Class R fuses without the correct rejection kit, so confirm the fuse class on the panel schedule before you order fuses.
5) Is the Eaton DH safety switch UL Listed for a commercial inspection?
The DH heavy duty safety switch is UL Listed, which is what an inspector is looking for on a service disconnect or equipment disconnecting means in a commercial or industrial build.
6) Does the Eaton DH switch satisfy the disconnecting means required within sight of rooftop HVAC equipment?
A NEMA 3R DH switch is the usual choice there. DH366FRK gives you a fused outdoor disconnect and DH365URK an unfused one, both three-pole and rated to 600V, so either can serve as the local disconnecting means at the unit. Pick the fusible version when the equipment nameplate calls for maximum fuse size rather than maximum breaker.
7) Is the Eaton DH a heavy duty or general duty safety switch?
Heavy duty. The DH line is Eaton's heavy duty series, rated 600V, which is the class used for industrial and commercial three-phase work where the switch gets operated frequently. General duty switches top out at lower voltage and are aimed at residential and light commercial 240V service, so they are not a substitute on a 480V feeder.
8) How do I tell the four Eaton DH part numbers apart when ordering?
Four combinations are offered. DH365FGK is fusible in a NEMA 1 indoor enclosure, DH365UGK is non-fusible NEMA 1, DH365URK is non-fusible NEMA 3R, and DH366FRK is fusible NEMA 3R. All are three-pole, three-wire, 600V.
