1) Does the Eaton E50SN limit switch come with an operating head, or do I need to order one separately?
The E50SN is the switch body only. It's a plug-in design, so you pick the operating head (roller lever, plunger, wobble stick, etc.) separately and plug it onto this body. Ordering the body alone gets you the contact block and enclosure, not a complete actuating switch, so budget a head on the same order or the switch will not do anything on the machine.
2) Can an Eaton E50 limit switch body be used in a washdown or outdoor wet location?
Yes. The E50SN body carries NEMA 1, 3, 3S, 4, 4X, 6, 6P and 13 plus IP67, which covers indoor, outdoor, hosedown, temporary submersion and corrosive duty. The 4X rating is the one that matters for food plants and chemical areas, and the die cast zinc housing handles the mechanical abuse. Note the sealing of the finished assembly also depends on the operating head you plug in.
3) Will a 10A limit switch directly switch a motor, or do I need a contactor?
Use it as a pilot-duty device. The E50SN is rated 10 A continuous at 240 Vac and only 1 A at 250 Vdc, which is sized for switching a contactor coil, relay or PLC input, not for carrying motor load current. Anything beyond that goes through a starter or contactor that the limit switch commands.
