Eaton C0075E5EFB – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Eaton MTE control transformer run on both 240V and 480V supply?
Yes. The MTE industrial control transformer has a dual primary rated 240/480V, so the same unit can be wired for either supply by connecting the primary coils in parallel for 240V or in series for 480V. Secondary output is 23/110V, 24/115V or 25/120V depending on the primary taps used, which is the normal range for 120V control circuits.
2) Is 75VA enough for my control panel?
The MTE transformer is a 75VA unit, which covers light control loads: a couple of small relays, a timer, a pilot light, or a low-draw PLC power supply. Add up the sealed VA of everything on the secondary plus the inrush of the largest contactor coil. If a contactor coil pulls more inrush than the unit can hold up, step to a larger VA transformer rather than risk dropout on pull-in.
3) Does the Eaton MTE transformer come with a fuse block, or do I need to add one?
A two-pole primary fuse block is factory mounted as a standard modification on the MTE, sized for non-rejection type fuses. You still supply the fuses themselves, and secondary fusing is separate, so plan panel space and a secondary fuse holder if your control circuit requires one.
4) What is the difference between the BFB and EFB versions of the Eaton MTE transformer?
Two configurations are offered: part number C0050E2BFB and part number C0075E5EFB. They differ by configuration code, so order by the exact MPN your drawing or panel schedule calls out rather than by the family name alone.
5) Is this Eaton transformer approved for use in Canada?
The MTE control transformer is CSA Certified, which is what most Canadian AHJs want to see on control power inside an industrial panel. It is also RoHS compliant for restricted-substance requirements.
6) Will this control transformer hold up in a hot machine enclosure?
It uses a 130 degree C insulation system with a 55 degree C temperature rating, and the winding assembly is epoxy encapsulated over silicon steel laminations, which protects against vibration, dust and moisture inside machine enclosures. Ambient inside the cabinet, not room temperature, is the number to check against that 55 degree C rating.
7) Does the Eaton MTE transformer work on 50Hz equipment?
Yes, it is rated for 50/60Hz operation, so it can be used on imported machinery or export panels running at 50Hz as well as standard North American 60Hz control circuits.
8) Are the windings copper or aluminum?
Copper. The MTE uses copper windings with molded-in terminals, so terminations stay tight over repeated thermal cycling and there is no aluminum-to-copper connection concern at the terminals.
