B-LINE CHU7NS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the B-Line CHU7NS power pedestal include a meter socket?
No meter. The CHU7NS is an unmetered pedestal, so it distributes power only and has no provision for utility metering. If the site needs revenue metering at the pedestal, you need a metered version instead of this one.
2) What receptacles and how many circuits does the CHU7NS pedestal come with?
The CHU7NS is wired for 4 circuits and carries a NEMA 5-20R2GFI duplex receptacle on the left side, which is a 20 amp 125 volt GFCI-protected outlet. Breaker position 1 is a non-ground-fault breaker; position 2 is empty, so there is no second breaker to feed.
3) Is the CHU7NS pedestal fed from the top or from underground?
Top feed. The CHU7NS is built for conductors entering at the top of the enclosure, so if your site has a below-grade conduit stub coming up into the pedestal base, this is not the configuration you want. Confirm your feed direction against the drawing before you set the unit.
4) How is the CHU7NS pedestal mounted, and how much room does it need?
It is a surface-mount unit, so it bolts to a prepared surface or pad rather than being buried in the ground. Plan the footprint around 6.8 by 9.5 inches with a 39.9 inch height, and at 8 pounds one person can set it before the feeders go in.
5) Will a CHU7NS pedestal give me GFCI protection for outdoor tool and trailer outlets?
The left receptacle is a 5-20R2GFI, meaning GFCI protection is built into that duplex outlet itself. The breaker in position 1 is a standard non-ground-fault type, so the ground-fault protection here comes from the receptacle, not from the breaker.
6) Can I add a second breaker to the CHU7NS later?
Position 2 ships empty on the CHU7NS, and position 1 holds the non-ground-fault breaker. Since the unit is wired for 4 circuits, there is room in the layout, but verify breaker type and spacing against the Eaton spec sheet for the pedestal before you buy an add-on device.
7) What is the correct part number to order this Eaton B-Line unmetered pedestal?
Order it as CHU7NS, an Eaton B-Line pedestal-mount unmetered power unit. That single model number covers the configuration: top feed, surface mount, 4 circuits, one non-ground-fault breaker and a 5-20R2GFI receptacle.
