Honeywell T410B1004/U – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Honeywell T410B1004/U line voltage thermostat handle a 240V electric baseboard circuit?
Yes. The T410B baseboard thermostat is rated for non-inductive resistive loads at 22A on 120, 208 or 240 Vac, and 19A at 277 Vac, on 60 Hz power. That covers essentially any single electric baseboard or convector circuit you would run on a 20A breaker at 240V. It is a line voltage stat, so it switches the heater current directly, not a low voltage control signal.
2) Is the Honeywell T410B a two-wire or four-wire thermostat?
Four-wire. The T410B is the double pole (DPST) version with four 6 inch color-coded copper leads, and it replaces virtually any four-wire line voltage wall-mounted electric heating thermostat. If the stat you are pulling out has only two wires, that is the T410A two-wire model instead. Count the leads in the box before you order, because a double pole stat needs both legs of the 240V circuit landed on it.
3) Can I land the Honeywell T410B thermostat on aluminum branch wiring?
The leads are 6 inch copper, and Honeywell states they are suitable for connecting to aluminum wiring if approved CO/ALR connectors are used. Those connectors are not supplied with the thermostat, so add them to the order if the existing baseboard circuit in the unit is aluminum. With copper branch wiring, standard wire nuts are all you need.
4) What kind of heaters can a Honeywell T410B thermostat control?
Electric baseboards, convectors and fan forced heaters, all on resistive rated loads. One heat stage, single setpoint, no cooling and no fan control. It is not a stat for a gas furnace, a heat pump, or anything running on 24V low voltage control, and it is not rated for inductive loads, so do not put it in front of a motor circuit or a contactor coil.
5) Does the T410B thermostat mount vertically, and will it cover the old thermostat's opening?
Vertical mounting only, on the wall. The body measures 4 1/2 in. high x 2 3/4 in. wide x 2 1/4 in. deep (115 x 70 x 57 mm), so the cover is taller than it is wide and will not sit sideways. Measure the patch left by the stat you are replacing against those numbers before you commit, particularly the 2 3/4 in. width.
6) Can tenants shut the heat off completely with the Honeywell T410B?
Yes, the dial has a positive OFF position, so the stat breaks the circuit rather than just dialing down to a minimum. The adjustable setting range is 40 F to 80 F, which is the band you would set an apartment or office within. Useful for a property manager who wants a unit's baseboard fully off in a vacant suite without pulling the breaker.
7) Is the Honeywell T410B thermostat UL listed for use in a commercial building?
It carries both listings. Underwriters Laboratories lists it under File No. E4436, Guide No. XAPX, and the Canadian Standards Association lists it under File No. LR1322, so it is accepted on both sides of the border. That is the paperwork an institutional or MRO buyer needs when standardizing baseboard controls across a facility.
8) How tight does the T410B hold room temperature, and will tenants notice it cycling?
It is a bimetal sensing stat, not electronic, so expect a 3 F (2 C) differential and accuracy within 2 C. The room will drift a few degrees between cycles, which is normal for a mechanical line voltage baseboard control. If you need a tighter hold than that, you want an electronic line voltage stat instead of the T410B.
9) Can I install a T410B baseboard thermostat in an unheated garage, storage room or vestibule?
Only where the space stays between 40 F and 85 F (5 C to 30 C). That is the ambient range the T410B itself is rated to live in. An unheated garage or an exterior vestibule in a cold climate will drop below it, so pick a location on the conditioned side of the space and off any exterior wall.
10) What color is the Honeywell T410B thermostat cover, and can I match it across a building?
White, with a one-piece vented cover over a plastic mounting base. Ordering the same T410B1004/U across every suite gives you one look and one spare part for the whole property, which is the reason most multi-family owners standardize on a single line voltage stat rather than replacing them one at a time with whatever is on the shelf.
11) Do I need any accessory to install a Honeywell T410B line voltage thermostat?
For a straight wall mount replacement, no, the stat ships with its mounting base, cover and 6 inch leads. Honeywell lists accessory 272804A/U for the T410B if your application calls for it, and CO/ALR rated connectors are required separately when the branch circuit is aluminum.
