The Ares 4827 uses a standard 2-1/8 inch cross bore with 5-1/2 inch center-to-center spacing between the deadbolt and the knob or lever bore. If your door already has a 5-1/2 inch CTC handleset prep, it drops in. Door thickness range is 1-3/8 to 2 inches, so it covers standard 1-3/4 inch entry doors as well as thicker slabs. Backset ships 2-3/8 inch standard, with 2-3/4 inch available if that is what your door is bored for.
2) What does double cylinder mean on the Emtek 4827 Ares handleset, and can I use it on a door with glass?
Double cylinder means the deadbolt is keyed on both sides: there is no thumbturn inside, so you need a key to throw or retract the bolt from within. That is the reason people specify it on doors with glass panels or a sidelight next to the lock, since breaking the glass and reaching through does not get the door open. The tradeoff is egress: a key has to stay accessible to anyone inside. If you want a thumbturn inside instead, order the single cylinder version of the handleset rather than the 4827.
3) Do I have to specify handing when ordering the Emtek Ares 4827 handleset?
Handing is required, left or right. Emtek asks for it whenever a lever is used on the inside trim, or whenever an interconnect device is specified, because the lever has to swing the correct way for the door. Determine the hand from outside the door: if the hinges are on your right, it is right hand. Both RH and LH are ordering choices on the set.
4) Can the Emtek Ares handleset be keyed into my existing Schlage or Weiser key system?
Both keyways are offered. Schlage C is the standard cylinder, and a Weiser WR5 cylinder is available at no upcharge for cylinder substitution, which lets the handleset be keyed into an existing Weiser system. The Weiser version is specified by adding a W to the front of the product code.
