Sta-Kon RA1157-170 EXP INS VINYL FRK TRM, 22-16, No10

The RA1157-170 is sized for 22 to 16 AWG stranded copper wire. Red insulation is the standard color code for that range, so if you are pulling terminals out of a mixed bin the red barrel is the 22-16 one. Anything heavier than 16 AWG will not seat in the barrel and will not crimp reliably.

It is a No. 10 fork terminal, so it slips over a #10 screw or stud. That covers most terminal blocks, barrier strips, and control panel terminals specified for #10 hardware. Because it is a fork (spade) tongue rather than a ring, you can slide it under a loosened screw without pulling the screw all the way out.

Yes, the terminal carries a 600 V rating and is UL listed under file E9809. That makes it usable in standard 600 V class control panels, motor control, and building wiring terminations within its 22-16 AWG wire range.

A fork tongue like the RA1157-170 is the one to use when the screw stays captive in the block and you want to back it off a turn and slide the terminal in. A ring terminal has to come off over the end of the stud, so it takes longer to service, but it cannot vibrate out from under a loose screw. Panel and control work with crowded barrier strips usually gets forks; vibrating equipment and anything you want mechanically captured gets rings.

The barrel is copper, so it is intended for copper conductors only. Terminating aluminum wire needs a terminal specifically marked AL or AL9CU with the correct compound; a plain copper barrel on aluminum will corrode at the joint and loosen.

The insulation is vinyl, which is the general purpose sleeve used for ordinary panel and appliance wiring. For terminations sitting against hot surfaces or inside high temperature enclosures, step up to a nylon insulated or heat shrink insulated terminal instead; vinyl is the lower temperature option of the three.

An insulated terminal in the 22-16 AWG range needs a crimper with the matching insulated-barrel nest, color keyed red for this size. A bare-terminal or open-barrel die will crush the vinyl sleeve and give you an unreliable connection. Strip to the barrel length, bottom the conductor out, and crimp once in the red nest.
