Sta-Kon RA2257M – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire gauge does the Sta-Kon RA2257M fork terminal accept?
The RA2257M takes 22 to 16 AWG conductor. The red vinyl insulation is the standard color code for that range, so if you are sorting a bin by color, red is your 22-16 barrel. Anything heavier than 16 AWG will not seat in the barrel and should not be forced.
2) What screw or stud size does the RA2257M fork terminal fit?
It is sized for a No. 10 stud or screw. The fork (spade) tongue slides in around a partly backed-off No. 10 terminal screw, so you do not have to remove the screw from the block to land the wire.
3) Is this terminal rated for 600 volt control and panel wiring?
Yes. The Sta-Kon RA2257M carries a 600 V rating and is UL recognized under file E9809, which covers typical control panel, motor control and equipment wiring work.
4) What does the locking feature on a Sta-Kon locking fork terminal actually do?
The tongue has upturned locking tangs at the fork opening. Once the screw is tightened the tangs grip under the screw head so the terminal cannot vibrate back out of the connection, which a plain fork can do on equipment that shakes. You still get the fork's main advantage over a ring: you can land or remove the wire without pulling the screw out.
5) Is the barrel on this Sta-Kon terminal copper or aluminum?
Copper. That means it is intended for copper conductor only, not aluminum wire, and it crimps with a standard copper-terminal die. The vinyl sleeve over the barrel is the insulation and insulation support.
6) Should I use a fork terminal or a ring terminal on a terminal block?
A fork terminal like the RA2257M is the faster choice for terminal strips and barrier blocks where screws are captive or awkward to remove, because the tongue slips in from the side. A ring terminal is the right call where code or the equipment spec requires a closed connection that cannot be pulled off a loosened screw, such as grounding points and many bus bar lugs. The locking tangs on this one close most of that gap for vibration, but they do not make it a ring.
7) Does the RA2257M come loose in a bag or on a strip?
It is a belted (strip) terminal, supplied in continuous belt form for use with strip-fed semi-automatic crimping machines in production panel work. If you are hand crimping one-offs, a loose-piece version of the same terminal is the easier format.
8) Is the Sta-Kon RA2257M made in the USA?
Yes, country of origin is the United States, which matters if you are filling a government, institutional, or Buy American flagged order.
