F4P S-Series Copper Wire Connectors - Twist-On, Assorted Sizes (Jar Packs)

Across the F4P S-Series jar packs the combined range runs 22 AWG up to 4 AWG, depending on which color you buy. Individual jars are rated in narrower bands: 22-14 AWG (gray, blue, black), 22-10 AWG (yellow, red), 18-10 AWG (yellow), 18-8 AWG (red, gray), 22-8 AWG (tan), 14-10 AWG (green) and 14-6 AWG (blue). Pick the jar whose band brackets the actual combination you are splicing, not just the largest conductor.

Yes. The S-Series is built for solid and stranded copper conductors, using a zinc-plated steel square-cut spring inside a thermoplastic shell. They are copper-rated only, so do not use them on aluminum or in copper-to-aluminum splices.

The green jar is the one used for grounds. It is rated 14-10 AWG and comes 150 count, which covers the usual 14 and 12 AWG bare or green ground pigtails in device boxes. For larger ground conductors down to 6 AWG you would move to the blue 14-6 AWG connector.

Jar counts vary by size, and they track the connector: the small 22-14 AWG gray jar holds 1000, blue 22-14 AWG holds 600, orange 22-4 AWG holds 300, black 22-14 AWG and yellow 18-10 AWG hold 200, tan 22-8 AWG holds 175, yellow 22-10 AWG and green 14-10 AWG hold 150, red 22-10 AWG holds 100, red 18-8 AWG holds 120, and the big 18-8 AWG gray and 14-6 AWG blue jars hold 50 each.

Size matters here. The largest S-Series bodies are around 1.57 in long by 0.8 in diameter (S3003) and 1.3 in by 0.68 in (S6003), while the smallest run about 0.6 in long by 0.33 in diameter (S1103). In a crowded single-gang box, step down to the smallest connector whose wire range still covers your splice rather than defaulting to the big one.

Available colors are orange, yellow, red, tan, gray, blue, green, plus a black 22-14 AWG jar. Color is not a universal code on this line: there are two yellow jars (18-10 AWG and 22-10 AWG), two reds (18-8 and 22-10), two grays (22-14 and 18-8) and two blues (22-14 and 14-6). Order by the AWG range, and treat color as a secondary sort on the truck.

For general device-box work, the high-count small jars carry the day: 22-14 AWG gray at 1000 count and 22-14 AWG blue at 600 count cover 14 and 12 AWG branch splices and low-voltage fixture leads. Add the green 14-10 AWG jar for grounds and the tan 22-8 AWG for mixed multi-wire splices, and most service calls are covered.

Both. The S-Series is used for splicing copper conductors in residential, commercial and light industrial systems, which is why the range spans everything from 22 AWG control and fixture wire up to 4 AWG feeders.

No tool is required. These are twist-on connectors: strip the conductors, hold them even, and twist the shell on by hand until the spring bites and the insulation skirt covers the bare copper. Nothing else needs to be ordered with them.
