1) Will the Klein 56116 eyelets fit my fiberglass fish tape?
The 56116 replacement eyelets are made for all Klein fiberglass fish tapes, and the fit is driven by the eyelet's 0.188 inch diameter shank, so the tape has to be a Klein fiberglass rod of that size. They are not for steel or nylon flat tapes.
2) What tool do I need to attach a Klein 56116 fish tape eyelet?
Attachment is a crimp, not a screw or glue job. Klein calls for its ratcheting crimper, Cat. No. 56115V, which is only sold as part of kit 56115. If you do not already own that crimper you need the kit to install these eyelets properly.
3) My fiberglass fish tape tip snapped off in a conduit run. Can I repair it instead of replacing the whole tape?
Yes. Losing the eyelet is the usual failure on a fiberglass tape, and these are the replacement tips for it. Cut back the damaged end, crimp on a new 1.5 inch eyelet with the Klein 56115V ratcheting crimper, and the tape is back in service.
4) What is the eyelet made of, and will it hold up to a hard pull?
The eyelet body is fiberglass, built as a high strength part for pulling. Keep in mind the crimp joint is the weak point on any repaired tape, so set the crimp fully with the 56115V tool before you load the tape.
5) Any safety rules I should follow when changing a fish tape eyelet or using the tape?
Klein's own warnings: never use a fish tape on or near live circuits, wear approved eye protection whenever you feed, pull, or rewind tape, keep a stable stance so you do not lose balance on a pull, and never back out the reel screws while the tape is still coiled inside the reel.
