Metallics FSPP1 Fire Rated Putty Pads 7x7

The FSPP1 is a 7 x 7 inch fire rated putty pad. At that size one pad wraps the back and sides of a typical single-gang box; larger multi-gang boxes generally take more than one pad, so count your boxes by gang when you figure quantity.

It is a moldable pad applied to the outside of an electrical outlet or switch box installed in a fire rated wall. The putty expands and chars under heat so the box opening does not become a path for fire and smoke through the rated assembly. It is a firestopping accessory, not a box or a cover plate, so you still order the box, device and plate separately.

No fasteners. Putty pads are hand-formed: peel the backing, press the pad onto the back and sides of the box, and work it tight around knockouts and cable entries so there are no gaps. Nothing to screw, cut or cure, which is why they are the usual choice for retrofitting boxes in existing rated partitions.

Figure one 7 x 7 pad per single-gang box, and more for each box wider than one gang. On apartment and hotel corridors the count runs high fast because every outlet and switch box in a rated wall needs pads on both sides of the partition. Order by box count, not by room.
