Sta-Kon RC2573M – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size tab does the Sta-Kon RC2573M female disconnect fit?
The RC2573M is a .250 (1/4 inch) female disconnect, so it slides onto a standard quarter-inch male blade tab, the size used on most motor terminals, relays, switches and HVAC components. It is a flanged female, which gives a shoulder at the mating end to help keep the terminal square on the tab.
2) What wire gauge does the yellow Sta-Kon disconnect take?
Yellow is the standard color code on insulated terminals for 12 to 10 AWG, and the RC2573M is a yellow-insulated female disconnect. If you are terminating 16 to 14 AWG use a blue-coded disconnect instead, and 22 to 18 AWG takes a red one. Match the crimp die to the color as well, not just the terminal.
3) What is the difference between a nylon fully insulated disconnect and a vinyl or non-insulated one?
The RC2573M uses a nylon/polyamide insulator that covers the full barrel and the mating end, rather than a short vinyl sleeve or a bare metal terminal. Nylon takes more heat and abrasion than vinyl and resists cracking when the terminal is flexed onto the tab, which is why it gets used in motor controls and panel work. A non-insulated disconnect needs a separate boot or sleeve added to get the same shielding, so it is more pieces to stock and install.
4) Is the terminal on the Sta-Kon RC2573M brass or steel?
Brass. A brass contact body gives better conductivity than plated steel and resists corrosion in damp mechanical rooms and rooftop equipment, which matters on a connection that gets pulled and re-seated for service.
5) What does the mylar on the RC2573M mean?
The disconnect is supplied with a mylar liner in the barrel, a common feature on Sta-Kon insulated terminals that helps protect the insulation during crimping. Functionally you still install it the same way: strip to the barrel length, bottom the conductor, and crimp with a die matched to a yellow 12-10 AWG terminal.
6) Are these disconnects made in the USA?
Yes, the Sta-Kon RC2573M female disconnect has a country of origin of the United States, which is what government, healthcare and education procurement teams working under domestic-preference rules need confirmed before they buy.
