Thomas & Betts C10-10F – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What stud size does the Thomas & Betts C10-10F fork terminal fit?
The C10-10F is sized for a #10 stud or screw. The fork slot is open-ended, so you can slide it under a loosened #10 terminal screw without pulling the screw all the way out, which is why these get used on control panels, terminal strips and device screws.
2) What wire gauge range does the C10-10F fork terminal crimp?
The C10-10F barrel takes 12-10 AWG conductor. It's a non-insulated barrel, so strip length and crimp die must match the gauge you're using, and the serrations inside the barrel bite the strands to hold the wire.
3) Which crimping tool should I use on Thomas & Betts C series fork terminals?
ERG4001 is the recommended tool for the C10-10F, and it also crimps with WT110M, WT111M, WT112M, WT2000 and ERG4002. Single-indentor or double-indentor crimpers both work, with the double indentor preferred when you're terminating solid wire.
4) Is a non-insulated fork terminal the right choice, or should I use an insulated one?
The C10-10F is bare copper with no insulating sleeve, so it needs either a separate piece of heat shrink or enough spacing between adjacent terminals to stay clear. Bare terminals are the usual pick where you want to see the crimp, where you're running heat shrink over the joint anyway, or where the 150 degree C rating matters. If you'd rather have the sleeve built in, the 3M Highland vinyl-insulated block fork terminal is the insulated alternative.
5) What voltage and temperature is the C10-10F fork terminal rated for?
600V and 150 degrees C. That temperature rating is what lets it be used in luminaire and equipment wiring compartments where a vinyl-insulated terminal would be out of range. It's UL and CSA recognized and carries a UL 94 V-0 flammability rating.
6) Will the C10-10F fork terminal fit between closely spaced screws on a terminal block?
Published dimensions for the C10-10F are A 0.82 inch, B 0.38 inch, C 0.27 inch and M 0.63 inch, on 0.04 inch stock. If your terminal block screws are tighter on center than the tongue width, the spade will foul the neighbor, so measure the screw spacing against the 0.38 inch figure before you order a box.
7) How are Thomas & Betts C10-10F terminals packaged and is there an order minimum?
They're sold each, but ordered in multiples of 50. Inner pack is 50 pieces and the outer carton holds 250. For a crew stocking a van or a panel shop buying by the case, that means quantities land on 50s.
8) Are these copper fork terminals tin-plated and RoHS compliant?
The C10-10F is electrolytic copper with an electro tin-plated finish, so it's the plain metallic look rather than a colored sleeve. Tin plating keeps the copper from oxidizing at the screw contact. It is RoHS compliant, which is what institutional and government buyers usually need confirmed on a submittal.
