OATEY 53458 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the retard feature on an air test gauge actually do for me on a plumbing test?
A retard test gauge holds the maximum reading the system saw during the test, so the pointer stays at the peak even if pressure later drops. On the Oatey 053458, that means if a line loses pressure overnight you can still see what it was charged to, which is what an inspector or a GC wants documented on a rough-in air test. A plain gauge only tells you where the pressure is right now.
2) What is the manufacturer part number for the Oatey 160 PSI retard air test gauge?
Oatey part number 53458 (catalogued as 053458), with UPC 675115053458. That is the single model on the item, so there are no size or range variations to pick between.
3) How heavy is the Oatey 160 PSI retard test gauge for shipping or stocking on the truck?
It is listed at 0.32, so it is a light, pocketable item. Easy to keep a couple in the test-plug kit on the service van alongside your test caps and plugs.
