Klein Tools 70570 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What hex sizes come in the Klein Tools 70570 Grip-It hex key set?
Five SAE sizes: 3/16, 7/32, 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8 inch. That covers the common fractional set screws on conduit fittings, lugs, pulleys and setscrew collars, but there are no metric keys in the 70570 and nothing smaller than 3/16 inch, so if you need 5/32 or smaller, or any metric size, this is the wrong set.
2) Will the Klein 70570 hex keys reach a recessed setscrew?
Reach is limited. The keys measure 1.578 to 1.969 inches long (4.0 to 5 cm), so they work on exposed or shallow setscrews. A deeply recessed socket down a bore, or a screw inside a housing, needs a long-arm individual hex key instead of a folding set.
3) Is the Klein 70570 hex key set safe for live electrical work?
No. The 70570 is not insulated and will not protect against electrical shock, per Klein's own warning. De-energize before you work. If you need shock protection, you want a VDE/1000V insulated hex tool, not this set. Eye protection is called for in either case.
4) Can you get enough torque out of a folding hex key set like the Klein 70570?
The holder doubles as the handle and each key locks into two positions, straight out or at a right angle, so you can pull it like a screwdriver or like an L-key for extra leverage. Handle length is 4.438 inches (11.3 cm), which is what you are working with for breakout torque. Klein specifically warns against slipping a pipe or other extension over it to gain leverage.
5) Why do hex keys strip out setscrews, and does the Klein 70570 help with that?
Rounding usually happens when a tapered or worn key tip bottoms out on partial contact. The 70570's hex ends are square-cut so they seat to full depth and make maximum contact inside the socket, which is what keeps the key from camming out and chewing the flats. Heat-treated alloy steel keys back that up.
6) Can I use one key while the others stay folded, in a tight panel?
Yes. The wrenches open independently and swing up to 270 degrees, so you can deploy just the size you need and keep the rest tucked in the holder. That matters when you are working inside a panel or next to a wall and clearance is short.
7) Is the Klein 70570 hex key set made in the USA, and what part number do I order?
Order Klein Tools 70570. Klein lists the Grip-It 5-key SAE set as made in USA.
