Blackburn GP100 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire sizes does the Blackburn GP100 ground plate accept?
The GP100 pole ground plate is built for #14 solid through #4 stranded copper conductor. That covers a #6 or #8 solid grounding electrode conductor, which is what most pole and light-standard grounds run, as well as #4 stranded. If your ground run is larger than #4, this is not the right plate.
2) Is the GP100 a mechanical lug or does it need to be exothermically welded?
Mechanical. The GP100 lands the conductor under a screw connection, so it installs with hand tools, no welding kit, no mold, no cadweld powder. That is what makes it practical for a lineman or electrician working at the base of an installed pole where an exothermic connection is impractical.
3) Is the GP100 all copper, and will it corrode against a steel or aluminum pole?
The conductor path on the GP100 is copper, and the device carries no insulation at all, it is a bare bonding plate by design. Copper against aluminum is a dissimilar-metal pairing, so on an aluminum pole standard use an appropriate anti-oxidant compound at the contact face or specify a plate matched to the pole material instead.
4) What is a pole bottom ground plate used for?
It is the bonding point at the base of a pole, light standard, or similar metal support. The plate fastens to the pole and gives the grounding electrode conductor a clean mechanical termination to the pole body, rather than relying on a clamp or a drilled-and-tapped lug. The GP100 is the copper version of that part.
5) Does the Blackburn GP100 come as a single piece or in a carton quantity?
Sold individually, one plate per unit. For a pole run where every base needs a bond, count your poles and order that quantity; there is no bulk-only pack on the GP100.
6) Where is the Blackburn GP100 ground plate made?
Manufacturing origin is Mexico. That matters on public and federally funded work where domestic-preference language appears in the spec, so check the project requirements if you are bidding government or utility work.
