1) Will a Hager 3982-BLU core drop into my existing Best small format interchangeable core locks?
The Hager 3982-BLU is a small format interchangeable core cut to the Best A keyway, so it seats in SFIC-prepped hardware and works with existing Best A key blanks and key systems. You pull the old core with a control key and set the new one the same way. What it will not do is fit a hardware that is not SFIC-prepped, or a large format interchangeable core housing.
2) What is the difference between the 6-pin and 7-pin Hager 3982-BLU cores, and which do I order?
Both pin counts are offered on the 3982-BLU in Best A keyway. Pin count has to match the master key system the building already runs on, not personal preference. A 7-pin system uses the bottom chamber for an extra level of keying depth, so a 7-pin core keyed to a 6-pin system will not integrate. Ask whoever holds the key records which the facility is bitted for, then order that count. There are also SFIC Prep options in 6-pin and 7-pin.
3) Why is this Hager SFIC core blue, and can I leave it in place after the building opens?
